About the Author

Dr Wayne Grayson

Dr Wayne Grayson is a Consultant Dermatopathologist at Ampath National Laboratories and Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Pathology of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He received his training in Anatomical Pathology at this University and the South African Institute for Medical Research, obtaining the FCPath (SA) in 1995.
In 2001 he was awarded a PhD. He headed the Dermatopathology service and later the Molecular Pathology laboratory in the Division of Anatomical Pathology of the University of the Witwatersrand and the National Health Laboratory Service before entering private practice in 2008. Specific areas of interest include infectious diseases of the skin, HIV/AIDS-related skin diseases and Kaposi sarcoma. He is the author of the chapter on infectious diseases of the skin in the fourth edition of McKee’s Pathology of the Skin with Clinical Correlations and the co-author of the chapter on HIV/AIDS-associated cutaneous diseases in the same publication. Wayne is a member of the International Society of Dermatopathology, Course Director of the annual Johannesburg Dermatopathology Symposium and co-convenor of the Dermatopathology programme for the upcoming 2012 International Congress of the I.A.P. in Cape Town. He remains actively involved in postgraduate teaching and serves as an examiner for the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
